Have you barely caught your breath after the holiday season and are you in need of a real break from all the changes of the past few months? You're not alone!
It's good to know that you might be working in an organization with a limited capacity for adaptation.
Perhaps it's helpful to first consider the fact that we humans are generally quite good at adapting to changing circumstances. It's largely part of our nature. But that doesn't mean we also incorporate this trait into the culture of our organizations. Organizations are there to organize the hustle and bustle. As part of that process, they need to simplify. In other words, reduce plurality. As a result, an organization's adaptability usually decreases as well. Sometimes to the point where it becomes completely ingrained in the culture.
An exception to this rule is, of course, the situation where an organization tries to reinvent the wheel every day. But we don't often see that in established organizations.
So if you work in an organization with a limited capacity for adaptation, but you are responsible for implementing important changes, you're swimming against the current every day. That can be exhausting. And you'll feel it especially when you metaphorically come up for air.
Maybe you've already thought about how you could change this. But culture can be a vague or even unchangeable topic.Know that if you strip away the mystique of cultural change, there is actually something you can do. You just need to know how. It starts, of course, with the desire to undertake a cultural change. And a first insight can already be a good start.
